How to play

Choose a decade, or leave it on all decades for a mixed round, and press start. Each round is ten questions with four options and no timer, so you can talk it over with whoever is on the couch with you. Every answer reveals the correct option plus a one-line fact about the show, which is usually the part people end up reading aloud.

Which shows are covered

The classic set runs from Yogi Bear, The Flintstones and The Jetsons through Scooby-Doo, Wacky Races, Hong Kong Phooey and Schoolhouse Rock. The 1980s set is the toy-aisle golden age: He-Man, the Ninja Turtles, Transformers, ThunderCats, the Smurfs, Inspector Gadget, Jem and DuckTales. The 1990s set covers Nickelodeon, Cartoon Network and the afternoon Disney block, from Rugrats and Doug to Dexter's Laboratory, the Powerpuff Girls, Batman: The Animated Series and Gargoyles.

Hosting a retro cartoon trivia night

Print the answer key, split the room into teams and read one decade per round, which keeps the older and younger players equally in the game. Read all four options aloud, give each team twenty seconds, then read the fact line after revealing the answer: it turns a quiz into a round of who remembers what. Ten questions per round and three rounds fits comfortably inside an hour.

Frequently asked questions

How many retro cartoon trivia questions are there?

Fifty, split across three eras: shows that premiered from the late 1950s to the 1970s, 1980s shows, and 1990s shows. Every question is multiple choice with four options, and the full list with answers is printed further down this page.

Can I use these questions for a trivia night or a group activity?

Yes. The answer key below is grouped by decade and the print button gives you a clean copy, so a host can read questions out at a party, a classroom, a family night or a senior centre activity session without anyone needing a phone.

How does the online quiz work?

Pick a decade or play all of them, then answer ten randomly drawn questions. After each answer you see the correct option and a short fact about the show. Your best score is saved in your own browser, and nothing is uploaded anywhere.

Are the questions the same every time?

No. Each round draws ten questions at random from the pool for the decade you chose, and the four answer options are shuffled every time, so replaying is never a memory test of button positions.

Is this quiz affiliated with any of the shows?

No. It is an original RandoPlay quiz written about the shows. Show names are used only to identify them, and no artwork or footage from any series appears on this page.
